DIGITAL Reflection

Doing the introduction video made me feel excited due to the flexibility in creativity that it Gives. I just truly wanted to express myself in ways that I can be seen as someone who factors in enjoyment in life. I believe that digital media in general can help us in a variety of ways. Just like how I can introduce myself in a more presentable manner than usual. To summarize, it is something that can assist us in using our minds to become more creative.

MODULE 1: Worksheet

What is history and what are the source of History?

History, in my opinion, is an important event that occurred in the past and has relevance to how things are now. Because it occurred many years ago, it can be passed down to current and future generations through sources that have been studied and proven to be true and reliable. The primary and secondary sources are the two types of evidence that can be used to prove that a particular event occurred in the past. The module defines primary sources as "actual proof of a specific event, which is physical evidence of the said event." While secondary sources are still considered factual, we cannot deny that they have been handled and controlled through publishing. Secondary sources can be found in books or in any other form, depending on how the author chose to present it to the public. It is critical to determine whether the information we have heard is true or not because it is so easy to spread false information these days. We would be foolish to believe something without first verifying whether or not it is true.

MODULE 1: Worksheet

Explain why the RA 1425 never mention Rizal as the "national hero". What are your thoughts?

After reading Renato Constantino's Veneration Without Understanding, it is stated that Rizal did not lead the revolution, though he was a part of it. Furthermore, Rizal dismissed the revolution's motivations and never joined the revolutionary forces. Finally, it appears that Rizal never actually advocated for independence because he simply wants the public's support. Jose Rizal is an intelligent man who knows what he's doing, which is why I believe he deserves to be recognized as our national hero. Just because he did not join the forces in shedding blood does not mean he does not support independence. Each of us can fight for our Filipino rights in our own unique way. When other revolutionary heroes were fighting in the war, Rizal concentrated on his writings against the Spanish government to inform the people of their evil. Rizal was gifted with intelligence, which he used to fight for our independence, which ultimately cost him his life. It would be unfair to call his nationalism into question when we are all living our best lives because of our independence.

Historical Significance: MARTIAL LAW 1972

Out of everything that has happened in the past, I chose the events of Martial Law, which former President Ferdinand Marcos imposed in 1972. Even after 50 years, many Filipinos are still haunted by the horrors and events that occurred at the time. According to De Ynchasti (2016), 3,275 people were killed, 35,000 were tortured, and 70,000 were imprisoned for minor and insignificant offenses. 77% of those killed were intentionally salvaged, usually found on roadside, beaten, and a variety of other things. These are just a few of the outcomes that prompted the Filipino people to stage the EDSA Revolution after 14 years of martial law. For me, we need to look back and remember the hardships that our forefathers endured. It is sufficient proof that the government has failed us in numerous ways. The events of Martial Law should serve as a lesson to us Filipinos to choose a leader who will not treat us poorly and who genuinely cares about all Filipinos, rich or poor. It would be a disgrace for those who fought for our freedom, particularly during the EDSA Revolution that deposed Marcos.I chose Martial Law because I believe it has historical significance, especially in these days when many of us seem to have forgotten what happened during these trying years. However, I believe that no other form of evil will ever triumph. And I'm counting on it. Enough is enough, as a Filipino. That is why history is taught in schools: to inform us about our past and to prevent terrible events from occurring again. We must all learn from it and not be.

MODULE 2: Worksheet

What was the 19th century and how this period moulded Rizal's nationalism?

During the nineteenth century, many events occurred that are recorded in our history and contributed to the country we have today. It was during this period that the Spaniards colonized us and treated Filipinos unfairly. Because of their unfair treatment, some of our well-known heroes, including our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, stood up for Filipinos at the time. According to my understanding, the death of Father Gomez, Father Burgoz, and Father Zamora, also known as the Gomburza in Cavite Mutiny, is what sparked nationalism in many Filipinos, including Dr. Jose Rizal. Whatever the circumstances were, the deaths of the three priests triggered the Philippine Revolution, which eventually led to our country's independence from our invaders. Because of how cruelly they executed Gomburza by Garrote, it woke up a lot of Filipinos and allowed them to see through the system that treated them plainly evil in their own home and country.

MODULE 2: Worksheet

Explain the concept of "Hispanization" in your own words.

According to what I know and recall, the term Hispanization refers to the influence of Spain on other cultures and countries. I believe it is natural to be influenced by them, especially since they have colonized our country for over 300 years. We cannot erase the fact that it happened in history, no matter how much we suffered during those years when we were under their rule. As a result, I believe it is natural for us to be influenced by their culture. What is abnormal is when we continue to deny that it happened in the past, fail to learn from it, and allow it to happen again. And I don't believe that only Spanish culture influenced us because almost all of our colonizers were able to share their culture with us as well. Just as we enjoy eating Siopao and noodles, which were given to us by the Chinese colonizers. We also learned how to speak English from the Americans, to the point where it became second nature to us and was even required of us at work or school.

MODULE 2: Worksheet

Explain why 19th century was known as the Age of Enlightenment.

For several reasons, the nineteenth century was known as the Age of Enlightenment. Many of our heroes today were created as a result of their experiences during the nineteenth century. Jose Rizal, Graciano Jaena Lopez, Marcelo H. Del Pilar, and many others. Filipino nationalism was put to the test during the nineteenth century. It was the darkest period in our history because of the sufferings endured by our forefathers under the Spanish government. Nonetheless, it became the reason for awakening their nationalism and love for the country. For me, it was the Age of Enlightenment because they demonstrated themselves to be heroes by fighting for something that cost them their lives. It may be tragic, but as a result, we have the freedom and independence that they crave. And we owe them our respect because they are the source of all our liberty.
